Superannuation - Looking After You and Your Teeth
Super is there to look after you – usually in retirement, but did you know you can access early release of your super if your quality of life is impacted by your health? If your life is affected by poor oral health, pain and discomfort – you may be eligible for early release of your super to help cover your dental treatment. Super is there to help you, but you don’t have to be of retirement age to gain early compassionate release of your super for your healthcare.
How does this work?
You can apply to access your super to pay for your treatment, your partner's or your children's treatment. You may choose to apply for funding to cover the entire cost of the procedure or part of the cost. This option is open to all Australians, whether you already have private health insurance or not.
What types of treatment might covered?
We’ve seen many different types of treatment being covered. The key is the treatment must assist in treating acute or chronic dental conditions. Types of treatment include fillings, deep cleaning, extractions, root canal treatment, crowns, bridges, implants, dentures, implant retained dentures, full mouth rehabilitation (e.g. new artificial teeth on implants, full arch crowns).
What are the steps involved?
· You connect with your trusted Dentist and they will discuss your treatment options with you including a full quote for the cost of the treatment.
· You will need a letter of support from your Dentist describing why the treatment is required for your specific needs.
· Complete paperwork to ask your fund for compassionate release of some of your super funds for your dental treatment.
· If approved, your super fund pays the money directly to you, then you pay your preferred Dentist to undertake your treatment. Payment must be made within 7 days of receipt of your super funds, or you will have to return the money to your super fund.
